Children learn about the scientific method and explore STEM concepts through hands-on experiments and games. They record their understanding individually through words and/or pictures. They also learn to share and discuss ideas and collaborate in small groups. Individuals or teams pick a topic of interest to explore and demonstrate their understanding of the concepts by designing an application (game or machine), drawings, prototype/model, or imaginative play.
STEM concepts include:
Science - A variety of geological themes, from minerals and rocks, to volcanoes and earthquakes, and even rivers, beaches, oceans and glaciers. Physics-based concepts such as matter, atoms, electrons, molecules, photons, visible and invisible spectra. Kitchen chemistry.
Technology - Studying simple and complex machine, its operation, and components. Diagnosing a problem with a machine with a built-in issue and suggest solutions and improvements.
Engineering - Machines, Energy, Mechanical work.
Mathematics - Algorithms, Probability & statistics.
Note: Students’ interests will help guide the depth and breadth of each topic. The experiments or topics may be modified based on the questions and requests made by students.
The list of topics may seem advanced; however, we introduce the basic concepts in an age-appropriate manner with familiar visuals, fun games, and stories. We discuss the importance of making mistakes and accidental discoveries made by scientists. We discuss the importance of asking questions and ways to research to find answers to questions.
There are 12 seats available for this class. To reserve a seat for the session, please pay the full amount.
